Nora Linares appointed director of the Texas Lottery.

Texas voters approve the Lottery by a two-to-one margin.
August 26
House Bill 54, creating a lottery in Texas, is signed by the Governor in a special session of the 72nd Legislature. The Lottery Act requires voter approval before taking effect.
August 19
The Comptroller's Lottery Task Force forms and begins preliminary preparations.
July 11
Legislation is introduced to create a state lottery.
